Innovative functionality and optimized protocols for demanding samples and applications result in reliable performance and superior DNA and RNA quality for molecular diagnostics. The combination of well-es- tablished magnetic bead based InviMag® technology and state-of-the-art process automation allows for standardization and streamlining of laboratory workflows. Tar- get nucleic acids are genomic DNA (e.g. from blood, saliva, FFPE), cell-free circulating DNA, RNA and DNA from viruses as well as bacterial DNA from a broad range of start- ing materials. STRATEC Molecular www.stratec.com New Products Ultra-Low Temperature Freezer Panasonic Healthcare has introduced the VIP ECO freezer, a new -86°C ultra-low tempera- ture freezer designed to operate on natural refrigerants. Intuitive internal monitoring and feedback systems are designed to optimize component performance, maintain balance between power consumption and tempera- ture control, and to assist facility users in meet- ing environmental sustainability goals. The interior volume of 25.7 cu. ft. (729 L) accom- modates many existing inventory racks in use in other freezers, permitting quick transfer with zero downtime. Other features include: Fast pull-down to -80°C and fast recovery following door openings; tight interior uni- formity minimizes uncertainty; patented VIP Plus cabinet insulation slows warm-up during power outage; internal heat exchanger increases performance, tolerates high ambient temperatures; smart controls with full-color LCD touchscreen GUI mounted at eye level; USB data port; graphical snapshots for temperature performance, and other parameters. Panasonic Healthcare Corporation of North America http://www.panasonic-healthcare.com/us/biomedical Liquid Biopsy Test for Bladder Cancer MDxHealth has launched its AssureMD for Bladder Cancer test in the United States as a laboratory developed test (LDT ). Testing will be conducted at the company's CAP and CLIA accredited laboratory facilities in Irvine, CA. AssureMDx is a noninvasive, urine-based test, combining methylation and mutation biomarkers, to assess the risk of bladder can- cer for patients diagnosed with hematuria. AssureMDx has been validated to improve upon the standard of care, helping rule out the risk of bladder cancer with a negative predictive value (NPV ) of 99%. The high NPV led study investigators to report that the test could potentially spare as many as 77% of hematuria patients from undergoing a cys- toscopy. Furthermore, the test's 93% sensi- tivity and 85% specificity can help doctors identify patients at increased risk for bladder cancer, who may benefit from cystoscopy MDx Health http://mdxhealth.com RNA Library Prep Kit Canadian nucleic acid and protein purification company Norgen has launched the new Small RNA Library Prep Kit. The kit consists of all the reagents and components required to generate small RNA libraries to be used for next-generation sequencing on an Illumina platform. The kit has been optimized for low input RNA (0.5–1ng), especially from bodily fluids and liquid biopsy samples such as plasma, serum, blood, cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), urine, and exosomes. The simple and rapid workflow allows for the library to be prepared in less than 5 hours, with no gel purification required for selected types of samples. Norgen has also launched complemen- tary products for Small RNA Library construction including NGS-compatible cel-miR-39 spike-in as well as the NGS Library Quantification Kit (for Small RNA-Seq).
